Glentui Bush is a picnic spot at the back of the Canterbury Plains. Aside from grassland, picnic tables, a rustic toilet, and a couple short walks, from here you can set off on a longer day trip up one of the foothills: Mount Richardson.
This walk is beech forest all the way with a scattering of tÅtara near the top. You do break out into subalpine scrub by the trig marker though, so you get good but brief views into the nearby Lees Valley.
Set off along the marked track at the top of the car park. After a couple minutes, a branch leads past a waterfall, which is worth looping past for a look if you haven't seen it. Ten minutes from the start, you come to an unmarked branch. Take the uphill path, leading to the summit. The track climbs fairly consistently, easing off onto a spur after about an hour. The journey to the summit is not challenging.
You can combine the Mount Richardson, Blowhard, and Bypass Tracks together to make an excellent 4-hour loop track that visits the summit.
